Laura Elizabeth Turner Franelich

Laura (Mama Laura) born October, 1873, was married to Nicolas Franelich. Her sister, Luella Turner, married Nicholas' brother Edward. She died February 4, 1952 at her home at 1057 Dauphin Street. Services were held at St. Joseph and she was buried in Magnolia cemetery next to Nicolas Franelich in Square 15, Lot 50.

Her father was George Turner and her mother was Elizabeth James Turner. Her mother was from Mississippi and died November 11th at the age of 65. She is buried in the same area (unmarked) as her dughter. Her grandmother may have been Rebecca Gleason who is also buried in the same area (unmarked). My great-aunt Dee Dee used to jokingly say we were related to Jessie James (I guess through this maiden name).

Mama Laura was living with her daughter Laura Odelia (Dee Dee) when she died, and all of her possessions stayed in that house until Dee Dee died, forty years later. It was from Dee Dee's estate that I inherited all of Mama Laura and Papa Nick's historical documents and other possessions. How these things were passed from Thomas and Odelia's estate to Papa Nick will never be known.
