Laura Odelia Franelich

Laura Odelia FranelichLaura Odelia (Dee Dee) was born August 29,1906, and died January 29, 1991. She lived most of her life at 1057 Dauphin St., and in the first few years at 1057, she lived with her mother, Laura Franelich, and brother, Edward Franelich (1950 census). Her mother died there and Edward was committed to Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa. 1057 Dauphin St. doubled as home and Franelich family museum. She is the source of many pictures, documents, and stories on this site.

Some pictures:
1913 _ in front of the terminal with a friend _ 1923 _ 1925 _ with Fred Cox at Pat O'brians in New Orleans and an earlier picture holding Blanche Ellis, this picture also at the same place shows Mama Laura holding Blanche also.

She was especially close to her double first cousin Thomas (Tommie) Franelich who live in the same house on Dauphin Street for some time. Her front porch was the scene for many pictures, I took these  in 1978.

Dee Dee married late in life to her old boyfriend John Donald. John Robert Donald was born in Heidelberg, (Jasper county) Mississippi, on August 30,1902, he died August 9, 1990. They are next to each other in a Mausoleum in Pine Crest Cemetery. This picture was taken earlier when they dated (John and Dee Dee are the center couple on right). John was a good fit for Dee Dee and the extended family. He got along well with everyone. Here is a link to a video I took during Mardi Gras of Dee Dee, John, and my sister, Esther.

Dee Dee and John enjoyed going over the bay to my parents house to visit. My parents hosted their wedding reception at their house after the wedding at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, Al. My father enjoyed John's company also; they would just do old man things.
