Edward Thomas Franelich
Edward was the 4th child of Thomas and Odelia Franelich. Born February 3,1860, and died from tuberculosis January 13,1910. For some reason he is referred later as Edward Joseph Franelich (Joseph was the name of Thomas' father). Edward live at home with his mother and siblings at ss Bloodgood, 2 w Joachim St. In 1888 he lived at ns Beauregard, 4 w Joachim. At 20 years old he still lived with his mother and was working for the Railroad as a "Hand."
Edward worked 31 years for the, L&N (Louisville and Nashville Railroad) 19 of which he was a passenger conductor on the New Orleans and Mobile division (NO&M). Around 1884–1890 he was a brakeman, later a freight conductor and finally a passenger conductor. Ill health caused him to retire two years before his death in 1910. He lived at 258 Beauregard St. 'The Conductor & Brakeman Volume 26 (1909) mentions Edward on page 75 as "Brother Ed Franelich has been sick for some months and is still unable to be on his run. (Mobile, Al.)"
He was married to Luella (Lula) Lee Turner August 6, 1885, and they had 7 children. Luella was born October, 1868, and died November 16, 1927. She lived at 407 N. Hamilton Street in 1913–1922 and later lived at 455 N. Hamilton St. from 1924 until she died. Services were at St. Joseph's and she is buried in Magnolia cemetery.
Luella worked as a cashier at Uncle Beaurie's Empire Theatre 1922–1927. Her daughter Edwina worked there also.
Luella Turner's mother was Elizabeth F. James Turner who was born in Mississippi but lived in Mobile for 50 years (her mother may have been Rebecca James, [Gleeson]). She died at 65. My great-aunt Dee Dee used to somewhat jokingly say we were related to Jessie James (I guess through this maiden name). When she died she was living at 407 N Hamilton St. Elizabeth's sister was Martha Kelly, her daughters were Mrs. J.P. Moore and Mrs. E.J. Franelich.
Luella's sister was Mrs. Nicolas Franelich (Mama Laura). This is the connection I've heard all my life about double first cousins: Nicolas and his brother Edward married the sisters Luellia and Laura Turner resulting in all of their children being double first cousins. His sister-in-law was Mamie Moore who had a daughter named Mabel Moore who was a cousin and at the wedding of Amelia Franelich (McDuffie).
