-
Letter from
Glen Brock to Dick Shelby
Mr. Brock was the
president of the GM&O Railroad during a lengthy period when my
father worked there. Later, retired and living a few miles down the
"Bay Road" from my parents, he used to come over to my parents house
and visit. He had a tree farm across the street and when I was there
he would ask me to accompany him on a ride through it. We enjoyed
each other's company just riding around talking and piddling. One
day he asked me what I wanted to do for work now that I completed
the building of my parents retirement home on the Bay. Caught off
guard I told him I used to work for the phone company (Southern
Bell) in Atlanta and wouldn't mind going back. He said, "That is a
coincidence, I just finished playing golf with ..., the president
of South Central Bell, two weeks ago in Augusta and I'll give him a call." He was
responsible for me going back to work with South Central Bell. This letter
is his response to my thank you letter to him.

Budweiser Certificate
Certifying The First Batch of Brewed
Budweiser Beer After Prohibition
When prohibition ended my father stood in line a block or so long to
be among the first people to buy a case of beer (legally) in a long
time. This certificate was unexpectedly found in his case of beer.
-
GM&O Ruler
1 foot ruler with routes.
- Newspaper Headlines
My father saved newspapers with
historical headlines. Unfortunately many of them were lost in one of
the hurricanes that hit their house on Mobile Bay. The one's saved,
he painstakingly separated each page and dried them in the outdoor
sunshine. When adequately dried he stored them again; the others
that were too damaged to be saved were discarded.
